Spirit of Huntington Art Center Partners with Optimum to Host Veteran’s Day Art Exhibition

To celebrate Veteran’s Day, the Spirit of Huntington Art Center is partnering with Optimum, the local provider of internet, mobile, TV and phone services, to host an exhibition of artwork by Veterans at the Optimum store in Bethpage on November 10, 2022.

As a population that was hit hardest by Covid, Veterans were often separated from their families and even each other, and it was incredibly joyful to see the Veterans at the Northport VA come out of their isolation and create meaningful and positive artwork through an 8-week series of Zoom sessions. Optimum saw the synchronicity in a unique opportunity to join Spirit of Huntington Art Center in supporting the Veterans with creative expression classes that transported them from being alone in their rooms into other worlds and sparked creativity and imagination.

Each Veteran was able to express inner feelings and emotions by utilizing new art techniques for better self-expression and new modalities to increase leisure awareness for Veterans within Northport’s Community Living Centers. The camaraderie and spirit among the Veterans as well as the staff provided all involved with a sense of accomplishment, belonging, and love.

This collaboration was made possible by the generous financial support of Optimum and talent and heart of The Spirit of Huntington Art Center. This program was our way of thanking the Veterans for their service.

Artwork created by the Veteran’s group will be displayed in Optimum’s Bethpage store, located at 1101 Stewart Avenue, starting on Wednesday, November 10th with a private reception from 8:00am – 9:00am for Veterans, executives from the Northport VA, Optimum, and the Spirit of Huntington. The exhibition then opens to the public beginning at 9:00am on November 10th and runs through November 21st. For coverage opportunities, please see contact details below.
